The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 has been around for a while now and is something of a bestseller. It's easy to see why - the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 is compact, stylish, well-built and takes good photographs that produce great A4 prints. As well as offering full auto and scene modes for beginners, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 also has a Manual exposure mode for the more experienced photographer who wants to take full control, although it would have been nice to see shutter and aperture priority modes too. This is a compact digital camera that will suit both the novice and more experienced photographer, as you can take as little or as much control as you like. In addition the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 is a responsive camera with long battery life.
It's not quite the perfect compact digicam though. As with most compact cameras that offer 7 and 8 megapixels, noise is the main problem with the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200. Squeezing 7 megapixels onto such a small CCD sensor inevitably results in noisier images at lower ISO speeds. Here, noise is fairly obvious at ISO 200, which isn't a particularly fast speed, and at the fastest speed of ISO 400 the image starts to take on a blurry look. It isn't as much of a problem as on some 8 megapixel cameras that I have reviewed recently, but if you typically take a lot of photos using fast ISO speeds then the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 is not really for you. For everyone else, who mainly takes photos outside, or indoors with flash, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 is a great pocket digital camera and definitely worth considering.
