The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 has a 8.3 megapixel, 1/1.8 inch CCD that delivers 8.0 effective megapixels. There are 5 image size settings available and 3 image quality settings, which are recorded as JPEGs. There are no RAW or TIFF formats. The camera's 3x optical zoom lens is equivalent to a 37-111mm lens on a 35mm format camera and consists of 12 elements in 10 groups. There is also a 4x digital zoom should you feel the need to use it. The camera supports SD Memory cards MultiMediaCards. The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 is available in three colours, silver, black and red.
The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 offers an Auto exposure mode and 7 different scene modes (Portrait, Super Macro, Landscape, Sunset, Night View, Night Portrait, Text). The maximum aperture is f3.5 (wide) – f3.8 (tele), and the shutter speed range is 1 sec. – 1/1250 sec. There are 3 ISO speeds ranging from 50 to 200 and an Auto option. There are 4 different White Balance presets to choose from (Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent), plus an Auto setting. The camera offers exposure compensation in ± 2 in 1/3 EV stops and AE Lock. The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 offers 2 different auto-exposure metering options - Multi-segment (300 segments) and Spot.
The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 has a normal shooting mode (still), self-timer, and 5 different continuous modes (Continuous advance (3 shots for 4 seconds at 2fps at 3264 x 2448 pixels), UHS continuous advance (15 consecutive shots (640 x 480 pixels) at approximately 10 shots per second), Progressive Capture, UHS Progressive Capture, Multi frame). There are 3 different colour modes on offer - colour, black and white and sepia. The Super Macro setting allows you to focus on subjects that are as close as 5cms. As well as 5 point auto-focus, the camera offers an AF Lock option. The built-in flash offers 5 different modes; Autoflash, Autoflash with red-eye reduction, Fill-flash, Flash cancel and Slow sync.
To compose your images, you can use the LCD monitor - there is no optical viewfinder. The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 has a 2.5 inch colour low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD monitor which has 118,000 pixels. The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 can record movies with sound at 2 different sizes (640 x 480 pixels and 320 x 240 pixels) at 20 frames per second. Video is recorded in the QuickTime Motion JPEG format. You can use both the optical and digital zooms during recording, as well as the electronic Anti-Shake technology. There is also a Night Movie function for use in dim lighting. The length of the video is only limited by the size of the memory card that you are using. As well as recording movies, the Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 also doubles up as a voice recorder, offering up to 180 minutes* of continuous recording time and an audio caption function, with up to 15 seconds of recording time per clip. There is no histogram available in either shooting or playback mode. The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 supports both DPOF and PictBridge standards.
The camera's dimensions are 95 (W) x 19.5 (D) x 68 (H) mm, and it weighs 135g without the battery and storage card fitted. The camera is powered by either the supplied rechargeable lithium-ion battery or the 4.7V AC adapter. Battery life is approximately 150 frames using the lithium-ion battery. There is a metal tripod mount in the centre-left of the bottom of the camera. The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 has a USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed USB) interface and an Audio/Video Out connection via the supplied cradle.
Finally, the standard box kit contains a Lithium-ion Battery (NP-1), USB Cradle for battery recharging and image transfer, Hand strap, USB cable, SD Memory Card (32MB), AV cable and Digital camera software CD-ROM with DiMAGE Master Lite and Kodak EasyShare Software. Note that you can only store 9 images at the highest quality setting on the supplied 32Mb memory card, so you will need to invest in some additional cards to store your images on.
