Conclusion

4 stars
(out of 5 stars)

It's pretty amazing what £250 will buy these days. Who would have thought a few years ago that in the year 2003 you would be able to buy a digital camera that delivers 3 megapixel images and digital movies for just £250?! The M603 isn't the greatest 3 megapixel camera on the market, and I very much doubt that it is the greatest digital camcorder either, but it is a tempting combination of both at a very competitive price.

As usual with digital cameras, you need to assess your needs before you even step into a camera shop, and then try to find the model that best meets those needs. If you think that you would like a simple, largely-automatic camera that delivers good quality prints up to 7x5 inches, and has the added bonus of doubling up as a digital camcorder, then the M603 should be at the top of your shopping list.

If you aren't bothered about recording movies, you want larger files or more control over the picture-making process, then there are better cameras available elsewhere. Personally I'm a photographer rather than a movie-maker, hence my overall rating of 3 1/2 stars, but don't let me put you off if you think the camera matches your requirements. The M603 is a definite bargain if you want a stylish, well-made, easy to use all-in-one camera.
