Image Quality

All of the sample images in this Review were taken using the default 2M 1600x1200 mode, which gives an average image size of around 600Kb.

Noise

There is only one ISO setting available on the Fujifilm FinePix A205S Zoom, which is equivalent to ISO 200.

ISO 200 (100% crop)

ISO 64

The noise levels look OK at ISO 200 - just as well as you don't have too much choice!

Sharpening

Here are two 100% crops which have been Saved as Web - Quality 50 in Photoshop. The right-hand image has had some sharpening applied in Photoshop. The out-of-the camera images are sharpened quite aggressively in-camera, although a little bit of post-processing brings out extra detail.

Chromatic Aberrations

As with most digital cameras, the Fujifilm FinePix A205S Zoom does suffer from chromatic aberrations, especially in high-contrast photographs.

In the sample image shown below, I was standing under a tree with the sun positioned just to the left of the main subject in the photograph. Consequently the edges of the leaves in the frame, especially in areas of details like the intricate branches shown below, exhibited quite a lot of purple-fringing.

Overall Image Quality

The Fujifilm FinePix A205S Zoom delivers slightly muted images in terms of colour, as you can see from the samples in the next section, which were taken on a sunny day. They can be improved by adjusting the contrast and levels/curves in Photoshop, but there are no options in-camera to boost the saturation or other colour parameters. This means that you will have to use an image editor to get the absolute best results from the camera. Noise is fairly well controlled at the single ISO setting of 200, which is just as well as this is the only ISO option. Chromatic aberrations in the form of purple fringing are present in high-contrast situations. Overall an average performance from the Fujifilm FinePix A205S Zoom in terms of image quality.
